Customer Ratings: - Does exactly what it says on the box!. This is an ideal home shredder. It shreds up to 5 sheets at a time, in the confetti style. If you re expecting confetti size pieces, you ll be disappointed, but if you re expecting bits of a couple of centimetres in size as shown on the box, then you ll be quite happy! This replaced an old and weary shredder that only shredded into thin strips so this is a definite improvement for us. I am very impressed with this shredder - it doesn t jam like my previous one. It is also easy to see how full the bin is and is obviously easy to empty - my old one the top kept falling in and the top was actually quite heavy. I was concerned as there are a couple of not so favourable reviews around but I have absolutely no regrets and would recommend this shredder. It is excellent value for money and a must for personal security in today s society.
- Shoddy construction. (Reason why there is a 88% saving). This is a late review. I bought this shredder 3-4 months back due to the significant drop in price it had, thinking i was buying a bargain.
After using it I understand why they need to sell it so low now.
When i first started using it i tried using 5 sheets at a time but it constantly jammed so i resorted to using only 1-2 at a time.
I gave the machine breaks of 2-3 hours every 3 minutes of use which was more than the manual stated was needed.
After a month though the machine broke, i could hear the motors spinning but the cutting blades never spun.
Nothing was jamming it so i opened it up to check if i could fix it myself. What i found was a bit of metal that held a gear in place so it touched another gear was broken. It was such a small piece of metal used for the task and considering how much stress it must be under it is obvious why it snapped.
All i can say is shoddy workmanship.
I do not recommend this item to anyone else.
I ended up picking up a shredder for £15 from sainsburies which is still running as good as new. - Particle Cutting.
This is a great shredder. It cuts the paper into what it calls Particles these are just over an inch long and will keep the identity fraudsters busy for a while. Its sturdy and can cut 5 pages at a time. It does the job. - NOT CROSS CUT!!!!. Nice shredder, bit bigger than I expected but oh well. Claims to cross-cut on the box but doesn t..
- Great provided you oil it regularly. I bought this 4 months ago. Initially delighted - great muncher. However, it did not seem to stay that way! After quite a bit of use it tended to clog up and stop due to overheating. However, I have now discovered that it is necessary to oil it generously and regularly - perhaps every few bin-fulls of shreddings rather than lightly and occasionlly as I had. (DOH! well who cares if the shreddings are oil stained!) Without this, for reasons I do not quite understand, it fails to make the cross-shredding cuts, and produces strips that wind round the mechanism causing it to jam.
It still struggles with 4 or 5 sheets at a time, eventually overheating and cutting out for several minutes. Despite this, I now again rate it as a good work-horse shredder.
I now rate it as 4 stars (This is a revised review - and Amazon s system does not seem to allow me to change my inital star rating.)
